Besch to Play for National Title

MOBILE, Ala. – For the second straight year, Embry-Riddle men's tennis will have a player competing for a national title at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships being held at the Mobile Tennis Center. Junior Patrick Besch went into the tournament as the No. 2 seed and secured a spot in the title match with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of third-seeded Fernando Bogajo of Lindsey in the semifinals on Thursday.

After winning his 8:30 a.m. singles match, Besch returned to the court at 5 p.m. with Simon Felix to compete for the national doubles title. The top-seeded ERAU tandem drew No. 3 seed Nicolas Pinones and Tim Hewitt of Auburn Montgomery in the title match. In the end it was the AUM duo that managed to hold off Besch and Felix 7-5, 6-4 to claim the national crown.

Besch and Pinones, the No. 1  seed, will be on opposite sides of the court again on Saturday when they battle for the national singles crown. Saturday's title match is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. (CDT).
