Second Day of Play Concludes at ERAU Open

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Emrby-Riddle tennis team continued to perform well on day two of the ERAU Open on Saturday at the E. Williams Crotty Tennis Complex.

The Eagle men lost just two matches on the day, with Chris Freeman and Patrick Besch each won their second matches in the gold flight, improving to 2-0. Simon Felix got his second win in the blue flight, while Jose Suger also improved to 2-0 with a three set win (0-6, 6-3, 6-4) over Greg Corwin of Rollins College in the eagle flight. Florida Southern won six matches on the afternoon; Bethune-Cookman won two, while Rollins College and Leonardo Lima, who's competing as a individual, each won one match.

Freeman and partner David Spennare got the lone men's doubles win for the Blue and Gold in the gold flight, while Florida Southern won three matches across two flights, with Bethune-Cookman winning the remaining match in the gold flight and Rollins winning in the blue flight.

The Embry-Riddle women got two match wins, with freshman Meena Bennett getting her first collegiate victory and Giovanna Tomiotto getting her first win of the season. In the gold flight, Chinatsu Kajiwara of Bethune-Cookman and Sabine Goge of Florida Southern each improve to 2-0 and will play at 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Rollins' Lisa Loft (blue flight) and Laura Wichmann (white flight) and Florida Southern's Joalis Dominguez (blue flight) and Carlie Davis (white flight) all won their matches to remain unbeaten and will face off in their respective flights Sunday morning.

In women's doubles the Eagles pair of Hui-l Huang and Kristina Marova won their second match of the Open and will face-off against Goge and Magda Riutort, who are also 2-0, in the gold flight.

Action continues on Sunday, with the first round of singles matches getting underway at 8:30 a.m.
