Simon Felix will play in his second regional semifinal on Saturday
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team will have three individuals competing in the semifinals of the 2012 USTA/ITA Florida Regional on Saturday. Chris Freeman, Patrick Besch and Simon Felix, seeded first, second and third, respectively, recorded two wins each on Friday to advance.

Freeman's first match of the day was a three-set battle against Northwood's Nikita Borodatov, but in the end Freeman was able to advance, holding off Borodatov 6-2, 1-6, 10-8. A few hours later, Freeman dispatched Webber International's Valentin Bayh 6-1, 6-4 to move on to the semis for the second time in as many seasons.

Besch earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Grover Ordonez in his first match, but it also took the Embry-Riddle junior three sets to go through to the next round as he held off Warner's Patrick Frandji 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

After downing WIU's Marcel Schmitt 6-1, 6-1, Felix faced off against J.R. Leonik in the quarterfinals and topped his ERAU teammate 6-1, 6-1 to go through to his second straight regional semifinal.

The top seeds in the doubles tournament, Besch and Felix downed Ave Maria's Joe Jaindl and Eric Peterson 8-1 to secure a spot in Saturday's doubles quarterfinals. Senior David Spennare and newcomer Kevin Chaouat also advanced courtesy of an 8-3 defeat of Teddy Pince and Leo Duval, and second-seeded Freeman and Leonik complete the Eagle trio in the quarterfinal as they advanced by virtue of a default.

Singles play resumes at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, while the doubles matches are slated for 11:30 a.m.
