Chris Freeman and his junior teammate
Patrick Besch will face each other in the title match of the 2012 USTA/ITA Florida Regional. Both players advanced after winning their respective semifinal matches in straight sets on Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
Besch, the tournament's No. 2 seed, was the first to finish his match as he held off his junior teammate
Simon Felix 6-4, 6-3 to move on to the championship.
On court two, Freeman went up against Warner's Julian Ramirez, the No. 4 seed in the tournament. The reigning regional champion, Freeman downed Ramirez 6-3, 6-2 to advance to his second straight regional championship match.
Freeman and Besch will also be on opposite sides of the net in the doubles title contest. Besch teamed up with Felix for an 8-3 win over in their first contest of the day and downed SCAD Savannah's Jack Anton and Gerardo Villanova in their second match. Freeman and
J.R. Leonik bested Grover Ordonez and Ariel Listo of St. Thomas 8-2 and downed Northwood's Guilherme Azambuja and Alvaro Iturriaga 8-4 to advance.
Sunday's singles championship match promises to be an exciting one, as Freeman and Besch have never played each other in match play. The duo will square off in singles at 8:30 a.m. to be followed by the doubles final at 11 a.m.
