Four Eagles Earn Sun Conference Weekly Honors

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Four Embry-Riddle student-athletes claimed Sun Conference weekly honors on Monday as announced by the league office. Chris Freeman (men's tennis), Sarah Huey (softball - player), Matt Jacobs (baseball - player) and Kevin Maloney (baseball - player). It marked the first time in both Huey's and Jacob's respective careers that they earned conference weekly honors as freshman.

Freeman garnered Sun Conference men's tennis Player of the Week for the second straight week on Feb. 18. In the Eagles' only match of the week, Freeman played at the No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles spots against NCAA II No. 4 Barry. In doubles play, Freeman and J.R. Leonik bounced back from a 4-1 deficit to top Romain Costamagna and Ollie Lemaitre 8-4. After dropping the first set 6-2 to Renato Lombardi, Freeman took the second 6-3, but fell 6-4 in the third set.

A 5-6 freshman infielder, Huey collected 10 hits in 17 at-bats (.588), scoring five runs and driving in two more. Huey, a native of Tomball, Texas, was also a perfect 3-for-3 on the bases.

Jacobs, a freshman infielder, hit .583 with seven hits, two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored in helping the Eagles to their first-ever sweep over the Sand Sharks. Jacobs slugged .750 and collected six hits during Saturday's doubleheader.

Maloney, a 6-0 senior, tossed 7.2 innings against No. 21 Universtiy of South Carolina Beaufort on Friday, scattering six hits while holding the Sand Sharks scoreless en route to his second win of the season. Maloney struck out six and now has a three-year ERAU record of 21-0.
