Men No.1, Women No. 6 in National Tennis Rankings


 
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Embry-Riddle men's and women's tennis teams are ranked among the top six teams in the nation according to the first Tennis Coaches' Top 25 polls of 2013, which were released by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics on Tuesday.
 
Ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, the Embry-Riddle men received nine first place votes and 310 points overall to maintain their hold on the top spot. The Eagles are 3-1 on the year, including wins against Valdosta State and Florida Southern, ranked 13th and 22nd, respectively in the NCAA II poll. The Eagles began defense of their Sun Conference crown with a win against Southeastern on Jan. 31 and will continue their quest for another conference title on Wednesday when they host Northwood (receiving votes) at 3:30 p.m.
 
The women's team fell four spots to No. 6 after opening the season with a tough schedule, which featured four nationally ranked NCAA II opponents. The Eagles head into Wednesday's Sun Conference match against Northwood (receiving votes) with a 1-5 overall record and are 1-0 in league play following a 9-0 win over Southeastern on Jan. 31.
