ERAU Student-Athletes Capture Four Sun Conference Weekly Awards

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Sun Conference office announced its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon; four Embry-Riddle student-athletes claimed their respective sports' award, including Chris Freeman (men's tennis), Mike Edwards (men's field), Martina Tafoya (women's track) and Reta Woodard (women's field). ERAU student-athletes have now won a total of 64 weekly/monthly conference awards throughout the 2012-13 academic year.

Freeman, who won his third award of the spring, teamed up with Deni Zmak for an 8-4 defeat of NCAA II No. 4 Rollins' top-flight duo then downed NCAA II No. 34 Robin Marchione in straight sets at the second singles spot.

Edwards, a senior from Manchester, England, is the fourth consecutive Eagle to win the award in 2013. Edwards hit an "A" standard in the high jump, tying his Sun Conference best height of 2.11m to win the event on Saturday at the University of Miami Alumni Invite.

Tafoya, a freshman from Crystal River, Fla., recorded an "A" standard and the top time in The Sun Conference this season in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.45. She placed ninth in the event at the University of Miami Alumni Invite.

Woodard, a junior from Spring Hill, Fla., competed in four events at the University of Miami Alumni Invite on Saturday, collecting top-10 finishes in each event. Woodard won the hammer throw with an "A" standard toss of 58.13m and took sixth in the discus with a throw of 40.47m. She also competed in the javelin and shot put for the first time this season, placing fifth in the javelin with a mark of 28.17m and recorded a ninth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 10.76m.
