DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Seedings continued to hold true in the Daytona Beach bracket of the 2013 NAIA National Championship Opening Round on Friday morning as the third-seeded Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson elimianted fifth-seeded Martin Methodist, 6-2 in game four of the tournament. LWC (43-18) advances to play Ave Maria tonight at 6 p.m. in another elimination contest. The RedHawks (38-19) end their season after their first-ever appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.
Freshman Scott Sebald was impressive for the Blue Raiders, holding the RedHawks scoreless over the first six frames, and finishing the contest surrendering just two runs on nine hits and three walks while fanning six in a complete game, 131-pitch victory.
LWC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third on three hits and a crucial RedHawk error as Blake Beavers struggled to retire the Blue Raider batters.
Catcher Trey Davis collected one of his three RBIs in the fifth off of Beavers as Lindsey Wilson scored two runs in the inning to push its lead to 5-0 before Davis accounted for the final LWC run in the sixth with an RBI.
Matt Thomas recorded the only RBIs for MMC in the seventh off of Sebald with a two-out, two-RBI single, but Sebald cruised the rest of the way for the 6-2 victory.
