DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle baseball team will make its 12th appearance at the Avista-NAIA World Series in the coming weeks, but will do so for the first time as the No. 3 seed. The Eagles (48-13) swept through the Daytona Beach Bracket of the NAIA National Championship Opening Round, posting wins over Ave Maria, Concordia (Calif.) and Lindsey Wilson to claim the program's sixth consecutive trip to Lewiston, Idaho for the 10-team World Series. The Blue and Gold will meet a new team in the York College (Neb.) Panthers, both in terms of an all-time series and because the Panthers will be making their first-ever appearance at the World Series.
The Panthers (44-10) finished second to Bellevue during the regular season in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference, but won the conference tournament to earn an automatic berth to the Opening Round. York downed Mayville State and Judson (Ill.) twice to win the Joliet Bracket and punch its ticket to Idaho.
Embry-Riddle and York will square off on Friday, May 24 at Harris Field on the campus of host school Lewis-Clark State College. Game times for the tournament have yet to be announced.
The Eagles are 17-22 all-time in the World Series, finishing as the runner-up in 2005 and in the final four a total of four times.
