DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team will be making its 13th national tournament appearance when the 2013 NAIA Women's Tennis National Tournament gets underway at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. on May 14.
The Eagles earned one of 10 automatic bids after being ranked ninth in the final NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll, which was released on Monday. ERAU finished as runner-up in The Sun Conference tournament, falling to fourth-ranked SCAD Savannah in the championship match. The Eagle contingent is led by eight-ranked
Hui-I Huang and 16th-ranked
Kristina Marova. Huang and Marova also make up the sixth-ranked doubles tandem in the NAIA.
The Eagles will begin tournament play at 1 p.m. on Tuesday when they take on host Mobile. This will mark the first ever meeting between the ERAU and Mobile women's tennis programs.
This year's 24 teams include 13 automatic qualifiers – awarded to conference/independent/unaffiliated group tournament champions – 10 at-large bids and one host berth. The 10 at-large selections were determined by the final NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Monday. Mobile of the Southern States Athletic Conference, received the host berth.
NeuLion, the NAIA's official video-streaming company of 12 select NAIA national championship events, will be broadcasting the championship match on May 18. Streaming of the championship match will be free.
