Marova Named Capital One First Team Academic All-American

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle junior Kristina Marova continued to garner accolades for her performances in 2012-13 on Monday. Marova, who was ranked 14th in the final national singles poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Friday, was named to the Capital One College Division Academic All-America First Team on Monday. The Academic All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be eligible, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or better cumulative grade point average.

A native of Star Sediste, Czech Republic, Marova capped off her third season at 18-10 in singles. She was a second team All-America selection and her 5-1 league record in singles earned her first team All-Conference honors for the third straight year. In the fall, she teamed up with freshman Hui-I Huang in doubles and after finishing third at the ITA/NAIA doubles national championship, the duo went on to post a 19-11 overall record and closed out the season ranked second nationally.

In addition to her accomplishments on the court, Marova has also been successful in the classroom. She has a cumulative GPA of 3.848 in Business Administration, which afforded her Academic All-Conference and NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition in 2013. She has also volunteered with the Palmetto House, Habitat for Humanity, Emeritus Assisted Living Facility and Heritage Preservation, and was awarded the 2013-13 ERAU Champions of Character and Steve & Vicky Ridder scholarships.

Monday's honor marked Marova's second appearance on the Academic All-America list as she was named to the third team in 2012.
