Maloney Named Second Team All-American, Lemon and Nelson Earn Honorable Mention Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the 2013 Baseball All-America roster on Monday afternoon, a team that includes three Embry-Riddle Eagles. Kevin Maloney earned second team All-America accolades as a senior while Jeff Lemon and Stetson Nelson were both named Honorable Mention All-America honorees. Maloney becomes the 29th All-American in Embry-Riddle baseball history while Lemon and Nelson are the 36th and 37th Blue and Gold players to be named Honorable Mention All-Americans.

Maloney, a left-hander from Dunedin, Fla., concluded his three-year Eagle career in 2013 with a 12-2 record in 110.1 innings of work, posting a 2.61 ERA with 74 strikeouts and one save. Maloney's 12 wins ranked sixth in the country while his 110.1 innings pitched ranked seventh in the nation. A 2013 Preseason All-American, Maloney, who earned 2012 Honorable Mention All-America recognition, finished as one of the best pitchers in Embry-Riddle and NAIA history, going 31-2 with a 2.62 ERA in 264.2 innings. His .939 career winning percentage is the best in NAIA history while he ranks in the top-10 of the Eagle record books in four categories (wins - 31, ERA - 2.62, innings - 264.2, strikeouts - 174).

The Eagles' third baseman, Lemon put forth one of the best offensive seasons in program history, finishing his senior season with a .358 batting average on 88 hits, 53 RBIs and 36 runs scored while striking out only six times in 246 at-bats. The Bunnell, Fla. native ranked second in the NAIA in at-bats (246), sixth in total hits (88) and 32nd in RBIs (53). His 88 hits were the seventh-most in a single season in Blue and Gold history.

As a sophomore, Nelson proved to be a workhorse for the Eagles on the mound, posting an 8-2 record with a 2.21 ERA in 122.1 innings. The Leesburg, Fla. native struck out 103 batters, walking just 20 while holding opponents to a .247 batting average. Nelson threw four complete games on the year and allowed just 13 extra-base hits in 19 appearances.

Maloney, Lemon and Nelson were all first team All-Conference selections while Lemon and Nelson earned Sun Conference All-Tournament honors, Nelson was The Sun Conference Gold Glove winner at the pitcher position and Lemon was named to the Avista-NAIA World Series All-Tournament squad.
