Evans Kirwa finished his Embry-Riddle athletic career in the fall of 2012 and will be remembered as one of the best to ever don the Blue and Gold and on Oct. 24 further solidified his Eagle legacy. Kirwa was named the NAIA National Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week on the 24th, the third such honor he earned in 2012 and the sixth of his career, setting the NAIA record for the most Runner of the Week honors in cross country history.
A native of Eldoret, Kenya, Kirwa's senior season was one to be rememberd, setting four of the top 20 fastest times in program history, including breaking the program record with a 24:05.21 time at the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 20, leading to his sixth and final NAIA Runner of the Week honor.
Kirwa previously won Runner of the Week accolades on Sept. 19 and Oct. 10 of 2012, and on Sept. 14, Sept. 28 and Oct. 19 of 2011.
In addition to owning the most national men's cross country runner of the week honors, Kirwa set the Embry-Riddle Athletics' record with his six awards.
