Darryl Knight reached base five times on Friday night, including hitting two home runs to run his season total to nine.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Conference championship No. 20 for Embry-Riddle baseball came at 12:13 a.m. on Saturday morning when the Eagles defeated Webber International 9-5 in the first game of the final Sun Conference series of 2014. ERAU (32-16, 21-4) earned the program's 15th regular season conference title (to go along with five conference tournament crowns) and the top seed for the 2014 Sun Conference Tournament in Fort Myers, Fla. (May 2-5) with its win over the Warriors (27-25, 12-13) on Friday night/Saturday morning. A total of three hours and 13 minutes of rain delays caused the game to extend into Saturday, but with
Ronnie Lozada's strikeout of A.J. Arroyo in the top of the ninth, the Eagles held on for the latest win in the
Randy Stegall era.
Darryl Knight did his part for the Blue and Gold as he homered twice and reached base all five times he made a plate appearance, collecting four RBIs while
Liam Goodall finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Daniel Poncedeleon earned his seventh win of the year by throwing 5.1 innings, and despite dealing with severe rain for much of his start, gave the Eagles enough before giving way to the ERAU bullpen.
Poncedeleon took the mound at 8:30 p.m. after a two hour and 30 minute delay before the start of the game, and got out of a first inning jam with a strikeout and ground out, stranding two Warriors on the bases.
The Eagles struck early with two runs off of WIU starter Nick Olson with
Kevin Lindheim plating a run with a single up the middle and
J Rhet Montana scoring another with a sacrfiice fly for a 2-0 Eagle lead.
After Poncedeleon again left two Warriors on in the second, Knight destroyed an Olson two-out pitch over the left field fence, scoring
Liam Goodall and
Jake Cavender for a 5-0 Embry-Riddle advantage.
Montana manufactured a run against reliever Chris Garcia in the third after he reached on a throwing error. Montana swiped second and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a wild pitch as the Eagles pushed their cushion to 6-0.
Poncedeleon and Garcia worked fairly smoothly through the next few innings, but the Warriors were able to score a run in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-1. However, Goodall drove in a pair in the bottom of the frame with a single that scored both
Jordan Johnson and
Matt Jacobs.
With one out in the sixth and two WIU runners on base, a 43-minute rain delay chased Poncedeleon from the contest and after play finally resumed, the Warriors scored three runs in the frame to get within 8-4, but again the Eagles had an answer when Knight homered for the second time in the game to leadoff the home half of the sixth.
David Lidyard kept the Eagles comfortably in front through the eighth inning and Lozada ended it by stranding the bases full in the ninth.
The two teams meet Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m. for a twin bill to wrap up their 2014 Sun Conference schedules.
