Tennessee Wesleyan Survives 2-1 in 11-Inning Game to Advance in Opening Round

| By:
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - In the best game of the first two days in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round Daytona Beach Bracket, the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs (35-23-1) outlasted LSU Alexandria (35-25), 2-1 in 11 innings to eliminate the Generals and move to Wednesday. The Bulldogs will take on Embry-Riddle in an elimination contest at 12 p.m. on Wednesday for the right to play Southern Poly at 4 p.m.

The game was a pitcher's duel for nine innings as Tyler Patterson (TWC) matched Rynn Touchet (LSUA) for three innings before LSUA finally got a run when Chance Schmidt drove in Mike Fredeboeling to give the Generals a 1-0 lead.

Touchet was untouchable through 6.2 innings, not giving up a hit until Josh McCray doubled in the seventh. Touchet kept the Bulldogs from scoring, but was removed in the eighth for Hunter Wallace.

Wallace got in trouble in the ninth and Tim Kiene kept TWC's season alive with two outs in the top of the ninth with an RBI single to right center, scoring Josh McCray from second to tie the game at 1-1.

Tyler Wilson pitched the final 2.2 innings for the Bulldogs, allowing no hits with three walks and four Ks and the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the 11th on a K.J. Hockaday single that plated Logan Longwith.
