@ERAUMBasketball Advances to Conference Title Game with 72-58 Semifinal Win Over Royals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The three Embry-Riddle first team All-Conference performers all scored in double-figures on Monday evening in the semifinals of The Sun Conference Tournament as the second-ranked Eagles (31-1) defeated Warner 72-58 behind 24 points from Dalton Barnes, 18 from Cesar Pastrana and 13 from DeForest Carter. ERAU advances to take on Southeastern in the tournament title game on Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the ICI Center. The Royals (20-10) end their season in Daytona despite 22 points and 12 rebounds from Warren Hall.

The game was a defensive battle from the beginning as Embry-Riddle held the Royals to just 38.8 percent from the field and shot just 45.3 percent themselves.

A three from Daniel Kiesling started the scoring and the Eagles went up 9-4 on the second Kiesling trey of the evening at the 16:25 mark.

The Royals kept it close, going on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 14-12 on a Keevis Tukes triple with 12:24 left in the half, but a Barnes jumper off a Jason Powell assist pushed the Eagle lead back to two posessions at 16-12.

Antonio Ansley nailed a three to knot things up at 22-22 with just over seven minute to go in the period, but ERAU answered with a 5-0 run, including four from Barnes.

Warner rallied for a 29-27 lead on another Tuked make from long range and a pair of Pastrana free throws with two minutes to go proved to be the final points of the half as the teams headed to the break tied at 29-29.

Tukes, who did not miss in the first half, continued his hot shooting to start the second, burying a jumper for a 31-29 Warner lead, but the Eagles got four straight points from Barnes to go up 33-31 and never relinquished the lead again.

A three from Kiesling and a fastbreak layup from Barnes pushed the ERAU lead to 38-31, and the Eagles held a multiple possession cushion for the next few minutes, going up 47-40 on an and-one by Pastrana.

With 9:40 left Hall converted his own three-point play to cut the Eagle lead to 51-49, but ERAU quickly went on a 6-0 run to regain the monomentum.

Two free throws from Reed Ridder extended the cushion to 61-53 with just under five minutes left and Barnes followed with two free throws of his own for a 63-56 lead a few moments later.

A missed three from Ridder was rebounded by Barnes who tipped the ball back in the hoop with 2:22 on the clock, giving the home team a 65-58 advantage and the Eagles only pushed the lead larger over the final minutes, not allowing the Royals to score again.

Barnes grabbed nine rebounds while Pastrana collected 12 in the Eagle effort. Carter dished out six assists and had five steals while Barnes registered three of his own. The Eagles committed just two second half turnovers after giving the ball away nine times in the opening period.
