CLERMONT, Fla. - For the second season in a row, three Embry-Riddle softball players were named All-Sun Conference. Anna Battison, Kailah Rain and Raquelli Bianco were among the 18 first team selections announced at The Sun Conference Tournament Banquet at the City of Clermont Arts & Recreation Center on Wednesday night.
Battison, a sophomore from Tsawwassen, B.C., was one of two catchers selected. She leads the team with a .363 batting average, .458 on-base percentage and 22 stolen bases. Battison has also thrown out 10-of-38 runners attempting to steal against her, the best percentage in program history (26.3 percent).
Rain, a freshman from Cartersville, Ga., was among four outfielders named to the first team. She leads the Eagles with 39 hits and is second in batting average (.328), on-base percentage (.360) and stolen bases (10). In conference games, Rain is batting .367, which is sixth-best in the league, and has stolen five bases, tied for seventh-most in The Sun Conference. Rain has made an impact in center field as well, gunning down eight baserunners, the most outfield assists in the conference and a single-season program record.
Bianco, a junior from Curitiba, Brazil, was one of three pitchers chosen. In her first year at Embry-Riddle, Bianco has a 14-7 record and a 3.07 ERA with a single-season school record seven shutouts. Her 89 strikeouts lead the Eagles and rank third in the conference. In league games, Bianco has six wins, tied for second-most in the conference.
Embry-Riddle also had three student-athletes recognized as Academic All-Conference on Wednesday night, including Talia Barraco, Rae Heuer and Robi Zimmerman.
The Eagles are seeded fourth in The Sun Conference Tournament and will be playing the first game of the tournament tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. against fifth-seeded Warner. If ERAU wins that game, they will play again tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. against the regular season champion and top seed, Southeastern.
