RedStorm Stun Top-Seeded Warhawks in 3-2 Walkoff Victory

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Rio Grande (Ohio) joined rare company on Tuesday evening, becoming one of the few No. 5 seeds to down a No. 1 seed on the first day of the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The RedStorm (34-20) came from behind to score two runs in the botom of the ninth to earn a 3-2 walkoff victory over the eighth ranked Warhawks (40-17), collecting half of their eight hits on the game in the ninth to shock the top-seeded Warhawks.

URG advances to Wednesday's winner's bracket game at 2 p.m. against second-seeded Embry-Riddle while AUM drops to the 6 p.m. contest against the winner of tomorrow's 10 a.m. game featuring third-seeded Bryan and fourth-seeded Southeastern.

The game belonged to starters Raymond Moody and Kyle Miller as both hurlers twirled gems for their respective teams, AUM and URG. Moody tossed 5.2 innings, allowing one run on just three hits, walking four, while Miller went six strong, scattering 10 hits and surrendering just one run on 141 pitches.

Tied 1-1 entering the ninth, AUM pushed across a single run in the top of the inning thanks to an RBI single from Matt Miller, but Daryin Lewis got out of the frame without any more damage done and his team rewarded him with a win.

Kyle Findley started the home-half of the ninth with a single up the middle, before his pinch runner was moved to second via a sacrifice bunt. Luis Jimenez singled up the middle to tie the game, moving to second on the throw to put himself in scoring position. Cole Goodwin came in to pitch with the potential winning run at second, intentionally walking Grant Tamane before Kevin Arroyo collected an infield hit to load the bases. Kirk Yates  was the hero for URG, singling back up the middle with the infielders drawn in, giving the RedStorm their second win of the day, 3-2.

Lewis got the win, improving to 5-1, while Brady Eldridge was tagged with the loss, falling to 5-1.
