DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's golf team earned a season-best third-place finish at the Eagle Invitational on Tuesday. The Eagle "A" team shot a 312 for a two-day total of 642 (330-312), while the "B" team placed fifth with a 674 (339-335).
Megan Pollenz was the top Eagle finisher and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team with a 155 (79-76) that was good for third place, just one stroke off the leaders.
Lauren Thielen joined Pollenz on the All-Tournament team with a fourth-place total of 156 (80-76), while Erika Shellenber tied for 15th overall with a 165 (84-81).
Daniela Pena improved on her score from Monday by 12 strokes to tie for 24th with a 170 (91-79), while
Marlena Weatherly also posted a 170 (87-83).
The "B" team was led by
Kelly Harris who tied for 11th with a 164 (82-82).
Natalie Brooks tied for 15th with a 165 (84-81), followed by
Catherine Yaun (86-86=172),
Kristen Holman (87-86=173), and
Keista Elder (88-89=177).
Playing as individual,
Camila Sierra took 20th place with a 166 (86-80), while
Christine Dominguez posted a 187 (93-94) and
Lovisa Clausen shot a 191 (94-97), also as individuals.
"What a difference a day makes," Head Coach
Maria Lopez said. "We made a run at it and just came up short. I saw some great charging and adjusting today. I think we are peaking at the right time. Really proud of all of our players' efforts; congratulations to Megan and Lauren for making the All-Tournament team!"
The Eagles have one more tournament left in the regular season, which is the Barry Invitational March 26-27.
