Poncedeleon Makes MLB and @ERAUBaseball History in Major League Debut

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Daniel Poncedeleon was the talk of the sports world on Monday night as the former Embry-Riddle baseball All-American made Major League Baseball history in his debut for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Cincinnati Reds, tossing seven, no-hit innings at Cincinnati's Great American Ballpark. Poncedeleon, just 15 months after suffering a life-threatening head injury in a minor league game, is the first Embry-Riddle draftee to make an appearance in a Major League Baseball game, and the right-handed pitcher did so in style, becoming just the fifth pitcher in MLB history to take a no-hit bid through seven innings in his MLB debut in the Expansion Era. Poncedeleon finished with three strikeouts and the only baserunners he allowed came via three walks. He was lifted in the top of the eighth for a pinch hitter as he was in line for the win with a 1-0 St. Louis lead, but with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Reds put together a two-out rally, eventually walking off on Cardinals' closer Bud Norris for a 2-1 victory.

Poncedeleon will look to help the Cardinals in their playoff push over the last few months of the season, but suffice it to say, we'll never forget his and Embry-Riddle baseball's MLB debut. #ForeverAnEagle
