DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--Freshman Kristen Phelps scored her team high sixth and seventh goals, the latter of which coming nine seconds into overtime to give the Embry-Riddle women's soccer team their eighth straight win over St. Thomas on Sunday afternoon at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.

The Bobcats controlled possesion for much of the game, using an offside trap to counteract the Embry-Riddle attack, and took the lead in the 41st minute when Nora Vartia's shot glanced off goalie Stephanie Taylor's fingertips and into the net.

The Eagles pressed and pressed, but could not find the equalizer as Chloe Cowart and Jessica Diego each had chances early in the second half.

WIth just nine minutes remaining, senior Katrina Morgan sent a ball to Phelps, who was coming up the right side.  Phelps settled the ball  and sent it into the far post to draw the Eagles level.

"I was just trying to stay onside," said Phelps.  "Kat played a great ball up, and I tried to send it to the far post."

Immediately off the opening kickoff of overtime, Lindsey Evans played the ball forward, and STU goalie Erin Barrett came well out of the box to make a play on it, but the ball sailed over her head and onto the foot of Phelps, who put it into a gaping net for the final margin.

"We had to abandon our style," said head coach Dan Blank.  "Ultimately it was our speed that won us the game."

The Eagles will complete their homestand on Friday, October 6, hosting Savannah College of Art and Design.
