First Half Goals Lift Eagles to 2-1 Win Over Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. ? Sophomores Joe Yoffe and Peter Masters scored a goal each in the first half to lead the 20th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over former Florida Sun Conference rival Flagler, Friday at Flagler field. The victory gave 13th-year head coach David Gregson his 150th career win and improved the Eagles' record to 11-5 overall.

ERAU took the lead in the 29th minute when Yoffe netted his team-high 17th goal of the season. Hugh Davey made a run down the left side and got a cross off to Ian Thompson on the right. Thompson played the ball into Yoffe who settled it with his first touch and rifled a shot past Flagler keeper Jordan Holtz with second to put the Eagles up 1-0.

Masters extended the lead with just 1:32 remaining in the first half. Phil Middleton eluded two defenders and slipped the ball across the top of the box to Masters on the left. Masters' left-footed shot beat Holtz to the lower right corner to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead heading into the half time break.

Flagler avoided the shutout with a goal at the 74:31 mark when Boris Kalff finished a Fredrik Ericsson pass to make the score 2-1.

Viktor Bergstrand had two saves in his ninth start of the season, while Holtz made three stops as the Saints fall to 9-7 on the year.

The Eagles return to conference play at 3 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to Babson Park to take on league leader, No. 10 Webber International.
