Women's Soccer Falls To Division I Stetson

DeLand, Fla.--The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team concluded their regular season with a3-0 defeat at NCAA Division I Stetson University on Sunday evening.

The Hatters were denied an early chance in the 13th minute when, after Kelsey Kramer's bicycle attempt rebounded out, Noelle Tyer's header was captured by Eagle goalie Stephanie Taylor.  Taylor came up with another big save minutes later, stuffing Sarah Stock's breakaway attempt.

Stetson broke through in the 17th minute when Heather Berg controlled a cross  from Sarah Stock in the box, and punched it past Taylor while staving off an ERAU defender.

Jessica Garcia had the Eagles' first attempt on goal in the 20th minute, but her shot was just high and wide to the left.

The Hatters took their 1-0 lead into the break, despite the Eagles' chances on net, include a sparkling corner from Amanda Diego with two minutes remaining that was miscontrolled.

Taylor made another brilliant save early in the second half, leaping to stop a blast from Tyer.  The Hatters nearly doubled their lead again, and again failed to score with Taylor making a diving save on Stock.

Kramer looked to put Stetson on the board again, but her header clanged off the crossbar, and on the counterattack, Garcia's shot was covered by Stetson goalie April Eilering.

The Eagles' second half chances to level came when Chloe Cowart's blast in the 70th minute sailed just over the crossbar from 25 yards out, and Garcia, facing Eilering alone, slipped on her way to the ball.

Stetson solved Taylor for the second time in the 73rd minute, when Kelly Kuenning chipped a shot past Taylor.

Jennifer Hays added a third goal just two minutes later, bending a shot past Taylor to the left side.

The Eagles will next be in action at the Region XIV tournament, hosted by SCAD.   Seeds will be announced later this week.
