Eagles Win First Match at PBA Volleyball Tournament; Showdown With No. 9 Madonna in Nightcap

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Savannah Trakes posted 12 kills and hit .357 for the match to help the Embry-Riddle University volleyball team to a 3-0 victory (30-19, 30-19, 30-24) against Northwood (Fla.) in pool play of the Palm Beach Atlantic University tournament at Rubin Arena. 

ERAU jumped out to a huge advantage in the first game leading 18-9 midway through the game and never looked back as Trakes recorded six kills on 10 attempts with no errors.

In the second, Northwood battled with the Eagles throughout and the squads battled to a 17-17 tie before the Blue and Gold went on a 7-0 run to build a 24-17 lead behind three Northwood attack errors, a service ace by Rachel Ridder and kills by Trakes, Jenni Nelsen and Jenn Meglic.  The Eagles surge helped them cruise to a 30-19 victory in the second.

In the third, ERAU found themselves trailing 20-15, but recovered with a 15-4 run down the stretch sparked by the strong serve from April Ebanks who served eight straight points with two of her three service aces in the match coming during the run as the Eagles prevailed 30-24.

Defensively, Ebanks added five total blocks including two solos and Mia Jaramillo added four block assists, while Trakes recorded 11 digs and Ridder added 10 from the libero position.  Marissa Gonzales finished with 21 assists, two kills, five digs and five service aces including an ace on the final point to give ERAU the match.
