Flagler Tops Embry-Riddle, 3-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Despite the largest crowd of the season, the Embry-Riddle Eagles could not pull out a victory over NCAA Division II Flagler College on Saturday evening in the ICI Center, losing 3-0 (30-22, 30-22, 19-30).

In front of over 344 fans, the Eagles started out with hot hands building a three point lead early in game one but were challenged by the NCAA DII rivals, as Justine Burkhardt's swing was just the boost needed for the Saints to regain the lead. FC began to pull away when they hit 20 points, taking game one 30-22.

The Saints took their momentum from game one into game two, taking the lead from the first point, winning game two 30-22. Flagler controlled the pace in the third match, although the score was tied for first ten points, the Saints pulled away and captured the match, game three 30-19.

The Eagles suffered from poor hitting, hitting just .050 for the match compared to the Saints' .214. Alana Martinez led the team with nine kills and one service ace. Janelle Marinos and Jenni Nelsen both tallied seven kills. Nelsen keept her streak of an ace per match, charitng one against Flagler. Marissa Gonzales marked 31 assists for the Eagles.

ERAU will return to action on Friday and Saturday, October 19-20, at the SCAD Tournament, in Savannah, Ga.
