Eagles Hold Tigers to 34 Points in Three Game Victory

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle Volleyball team played their shortest match (91 minutes) of the 2007 season at Edward Waters College, holding the Tigers to 34 total points in ERAU's 3-0 win (30-13, 30-9, 30-12).

Marissa Gonzales led the Eagles in game one, charting four kills, the most she has had in a single game this season. She ended the night half way through game two, with five kills, 24 assists and three digs. Both Savannah Trakes and Rachel Ridder served five consecutive points for the Eagles, bringing the team's lead from seven to 17 points before Corey Dobridnia closed out the first game with a hard hit from the middle. She was assisted on the play by Gonzales.

Leading 13-7 midway through game two, the Eagles went on a 17-2 run to close out the game 30-9. Lauren Anastase served eight straight points, while Janelle Marinos, Alana Martinez and Dobridnia combined for 12 of the 13 kills during the run. Kristen Hassett served one of her two aces on the night to close out game two for Embry-Riddle.

The Eagles closed out the match with a 30-12 win in game three. Hassett posted 14 assists in the final game.

ERAU out-hit EWC in the match, completing 48 of 108 attacks (.361) while the Tigers did not see positive numbers from any of their attackers. Every Eagle saw playing time against the Tigers, with only three of them playing all three games. Dobridnia led the team with 11 kills, hitting .588. Martinez completed 9 of 18 attacks, with three service aces and three digs. Marinos led the team in digs with 12, she also had two aces and seven kills. Jenni Nelsen kept her service ace streak alive, marking her twelfth consecutive match with a service ace.

ERAU now moves to 7-3 in the the FSC, while evening out their win-loss record at 13-13. The Eagles will begin a three-day, three-match road trip on Thursday, facing off against Northwood in West Palm Beach at 7 p.m. The Eagles will play Florida Memorial on Friday at 7 p.m. and then close out the road trip at St. Thomas on Saturday at 12 noon.
