Saints Top Eagles, 3-0

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle Eagles four-game winning streak was halted on Wednesday, October 31 as NCAA Division II rivals Flagler College took the three game match (24-30, 24-30, 14-30).

The Eagles played even with the Saints in game one, matching point for point. However, Flagler began to pull away from the Eagles at 13-14 when a ruled replay went against ERAU and gave FC the push to take a four point lead at 17-13. After a time out by Head Coach Joslynn Gallop, the Eagles recovered the ball off a tipped kill by FSC Player of the Week, Alana Martinez. That was followed up by a duo block by Martinez and Jenni Nelsen. A hitting error by Flagler and a kill by Savannah Trakes tied the game at 17. Flagler took the lead at 18-17 and held it for the rest of the game winning the first game 30-24.

The Saints took a quick 8-3 lead in game two and followed by answering every Eagle point with one of their own, taking the game 30-24. Flagler took the lead in game three 3-2 and managed a seven point lead soon after, leading 11-4. Flagler's hitter controlled the remainder of the match, winning the third game 30-14.

Flagler out-hit Embry-Riddle 48 to 30 kills, with 21 of them coming from match kill leader Justine Burkhardt. The Eagles were led by Savannah Trakes with 14 kills, 10 digs and two service aces. Marissa Gonzales marked 23 assists on the night along with two kills. Jenni Nelsen's 15 match ace streak was ended.

This was the second meeting between the two teams this season, the first time was on October 13, when FC won 3-0. The Eagles move to 16-14 overall and keep their 10-3 FSC record until Satruday when they host their final regualr season game of the year against Savannah College of Art & Design. The game will begin at noon.
