HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - Despite continuous battle on the field of the SCAD Athletic Complex, the ERAU women's soccer team dropped a tough battle to the No. 7 Savannah College of Art & Design Bees in the Region XIV Tournament on Friday night by the score of 2-5.
SCAD (12-2-1) was put in a good position for victory when Melissa Feuerriegel scored first for the Bees in the 12th minute. The Eagles (7-10) showed their resiliency eight minutes later when Kristen Phelps ran down the middle and created a one-versus-one situation with SCAD's keeper. Phelps won the battle and put one goal up on the board, equalizing the playing field before going into halftime.
After the half, the Bees and Eagles both added onto their respective scores with Lindsey Evans increasing the ERAU total to two after a kick from just inside the 18-yard box in the 83rd minute. However, SCAD was able to tack on three additional goals to the scoreboard in their favor and claim the 5-2 victory.
Stephanie Taylor had a big night in goal for the Eagles as the Bees has 27 shots on the evening with 14 of them being on target. Taylor notched nine saves including multiple clutch saves in the second half.
ERAU committed three fouls on the evening while SCAD was called for 11 violations.
The Eagles now look to return to Daytona Beach, get healthy and prepare for the 2007 NAIA National Tournament as ERAU is the host. While their competition has not been determined yet, the Eagles will round out day one of tournament play on Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
