Eagle Basketball Opens 2007-08 Season With 119-58 Win Over College of the Bahamas

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team (1-0) marked their return to the ICI Center with an authoritative 119-58 win over the second-year College of the Bahamas (0-1) program in the Eagles' season opener on Friday. The Eagles raced out to a 33-9 lead in their first game on their home court since it was damaged by a tornado last Christmas Day, and they never looked back.

The Eagles were solid on both sides of the ball as the offense shot 48.8 percent from the floor, including 41.7 percent from beyond the arc, while the defense held the Caribs to just 31.4 percent shooting from the field.

Junior Denver Cobb led all scorers, coming off the bench to score 26 points, while junior college transfer Rocky Pierre contributed 23 points, including four three-pointers in as many attempts in the second half.

Garvin Lightbourn paced the College of the Bahamas offense putting up 16 points in the first half before finishing with 24.

The Eagles' next game will be at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9 when they host Viterbo (Wisc.) at the ICI Center as part of the 2007 homecoming festivities.
