ERAU Men, Women Fall to Lynn

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle men's and women's tennis teams both fell victim to the ranked programs from NCAA II Lynn in non-conference action on Saturday. Lynn's second-ranked men's team edged the fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle men 5-4, while the Lynn women, ranked fourth in NCAA II, topped ERAU 9-0. The losses drop the Embry-Riddle men to 1-1 and the women to 1-2 on the year.

Embry-Riddle took a 2-1 lead after doubles play on the men's side as Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov and Tomoaki Yasuda and Luke Maricic locked up 8-2 and 8-4 wins and the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively.

Hizak defeated Lorenzo Cava at No. 1 singles to extend the lead to 3-1. But Lynn fought back claiming wins at No. 3 and No. 4. The No. 2 and No. 5 match-ups both went to three sets with Lazarov wrapping up the second spot with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 victory over Dennis Riegraf. Lazarov's teammate Istvan Bolgar had a little more of a battle at the fifth spot. He took the first set 7-6 with 8-6 win in the tie breaker over Tomas Racak, but lost another close set 7-6 in the second and eventually fell 6-4 in the third.

The clincher came at the No. 6 position as Cedric Duval outlasted Maricic 6-3, 6-4 to give the Knights (2-1) the win.

The Lynn women (3-1) got their match started with a doubles sweep, taking a 3-0 lead. The sixth-ranked duo of Victoria Weltz and Alexandra Schunk topped Natalie Anaya and Lindsey Kurtz 8-2 at the No. 1 spot. The Knights' next win was recorded at the No. 2 position as Gedville Norkute and Katie Kilbanoff-Dombrovski downed Hana Im and Kerinn Meisenbach 8-3. At No. 3, Katerina Jiskrova and Christine Johnstone posted an 8-4 win over Marga Rico-Jimenez and Anna Haller.

In singles play, Norkute gave the Knights a 4-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Kurtz at the third spot. Jiskrova sealed the win at the No. 4 spot with 6-0, 6-1 decision over Meisenbach.

The Eagles return to to Florida Sun Conference play on Friday when they host Warner Southern. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
