TAMPA, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to NCAA II Tampa in the first dual match of the 2007 season on Saturday.
The Eagles took two doubles matches as
Natalie Anaya and
Lindsey Kurtz downed Necat Akman and Jessica Faber 8-6 at the No. 1 position, and
Hana Im and
Kerrin Meisenbach defeated Jamie Lieberman and Kourtney Stark 8-3 at the No. 2 spot.
But the Spartans, ranked No. 36 in NCAA II, battled back to take five of the six singles matches to capture the win and move to 1-0 on the year.
Kerrin Meisenbach recorded the Eagles' only singles win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Lindsay Pine at No. 4 singles.
"I like the competitiveness of our team today," head coach
David Paschal said following the match. "We've got a very young team and there was a lot of inexperience out there in the sense that for four of them it was their first college dual match ever. But they competed hard and kept their composure and I was proud of them. "
The Eagles battle Hillsborough Community College in a scrimmage on Sunday and return to Daytona Beach to host the ERAU Invitational at the Crotty Tennis Complex next weekend.
