DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The 11th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team (1-1) opened its conference slate with 9-0 victory over Webber International, Friday at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
ERAU got the match started with a doubles sweep to take a 3-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles the junior tandem of
Natalie Anaya and
Lindsey Kurtz held off Asa Esaisson and Saana Sysimetsa, 8-6.
Kerinn Meisenbach and
Hana Im downed Maria Chalmers and Kammie Bilardello 8-1 at the second spot, and
Marga Rico Jimenez and
Anna Haller posted an 8-1 win at the No. 3 position.
In singles play, the Eagles engaged in hard fought battles at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions. Im came out on the winning end of a 7-5, 6-4 decision at the top spot, while
Sara Abraul defeated Jessica Renner-Thomas 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 6.
The Eagles dropped just seven games from the No. 2 to No. 6 spots as Meisenbach blanked Bilardello at No. 4 and Jimenez pulled off the same feat at No. 5 against Brittany Pinson.
The Eagles return to action at 10 a.m. on Saturday when they host NCAA II No. 4 Lynn.
