DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches with a 9-0 shutout of Benedictine, Friday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles won all six singles matches in straight sets to improve their overall record to 8-5.
ERAU pulled ahead after winning all three doubles points. Hana Im and Kerinn Meisenbach dispatched Jocelyn Sturek and Megan Kelly 8-1 at No. 2, Marga Rico Jimenez and Sara Abraúl downed Elisa Hund and Caitlin Kelly 8-2, and Natalie Anaya and Lindsey Kurtz won their No. 1 doubles contest 8-5.
After the Eagles took the 3-0 lead, Kurtz bageled Sturek 6-0, 6-0 at the third position to push the advantage to 4-0.
Anaya made quick work of Canon at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2), to clinch the match for the Blue and Gold at the No. 2 spot.
The four Embry-Riddle freshmen also has strong showings as Im topped Ojeda 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1, Meisenbach downed Megan Kelly 6-2, 6-4 at No.4, Rico-Jimenez defeated Beth Stokman 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and Abraul closed things out with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Caitlin Kelly at No. 6.
The Eagles' next match will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday when they host NCAA I St. Louis at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
