Sailfish Too Much For Eagles

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Altantic Sailfish were too much for the Embry-Riddle Eagles (8-6, 4-1 FSC) on Friday, September 28, as they topped the home team, 3-1. The game was held at the ICI Center.

In game one the score was tied at 7-5, in ERAU's favor, as the Eagles built up their momentum and went on a 12-2 run, increasing their lead to 19-7. After taking a timeout, the Sailfish created a comeback tying the game at 19. Both teams battled back and forth for the lead. PBA faced taking the game first, at 29-28, Janelle Marinos came up with a big kill to keep the Eagles alive. Savannah Trakes closed out the win at 32-30 with a lob serve, just barely making it over the net for a service ace.

The Sailfish took game two, 30-23. PBA took the lead early and did not let the Eagles to back within five points. The Eagle momentum decreased as games three and four were played, in turn suffering their sixth loss of the season. The Division II institution picked up their eleventh win of the season, their second victory over Embry-Riddle.

The Eagles were led by Janelle Marinos led the team with 18 kills and 13 digs, and Marissa Gonzales who hit .308, charting four kills, 39 assists and a service ace.

Embry-Riddle will return to action on Saturday, September 29, hosting Northwood University at noon. The two teams last saw each other on September 21, at the Pepsi Bash at the Beach Tournament, when the Seahawks swept the match, 3-0.
