MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. ? Nicolas Albojer and Sunday Ogundasi each scored two goals to lead the Bobcats to a 5-1 victory over Embry-Riddle on Tuesday. The Bobcats, who are fighting for a spot in the conference tournament, improve to 7-7-2 overall and 4-4-1 in conference, while the Eagles fall to 7-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play.
Embry-Riddle dominated possession early in the first period and continued to pressure the Bobcats with 11 corner kicks and 10 total shots, but they struggled to turn their advantage into a goal.
St. Thomas scored first off the foot of Nicolas Albojer in the 29th minute. A cross from Dale Arendse was deflected by Embry-Riddle goalkeeper Alfredo Diaz, but Albojer recovered the rebound and put the ball away off his first touch.
Embry-Riddle was able to create a few more close opportunities before the whistle blew, but goalkeeper Aaron Jones thwarted their efforts with five saves in the first half.
The Bobcats increased their lead just ten minutes in to the second period. Albojer sent a high ball across the goal to find Gabe Renteria on the six-yard line. Renteria took the ball out of the air and drove a shot past Diaz to put the Bobcats up 2-0.
Five minutes later, Embry-Riddle found the back of the net. A foul on St Thomas led to a free kick for the Eagles 25 yards off the end line. Ryan Woods sent the ball past the Bobcats' wall and into the bottom corner for his fourth goal on the season.
Not satisfied with a one goal lead, STU continued to pressure a complacent Eagles squad. The Bobcats widened the gap in the 74th minute when Albojer gained control of the ball deep in Eagle territory and then buried a shot in the top corner for his second goal of the game.
Sunday Ogundasi netted the final two goals of the contest, with help from Juan Sanchez on both of them.
The Eagles will face SCAD at home on Saturday for their final conference game of the season.
