Eagle Women Close Out Regular Season With 3-1 Victory Over Webber International

BABSON PARK, Fla. ? The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team improved its overall record to 8-7 with a 3-1 win against conference foe Webber International in the Eagles' regular season finale, Saturday at Warrior Field. With the win the Eagles wrapped up third place in The Sun Conference regular season race at 6-4, while the Warriors move to 7-7-1 overall and 4-6 in the league.

The first two scoring chances of the game came early in the match from the Warrior offense, but it was the Eagles who put the first goal up on the scoreboard.

Elina Johansson started the play with a pass from the middle to Kara Haack on the left side. Haack played a through ball to Henriksen and she took the ball into the box. Warrior netminder Kelsey Coates got her fingertips to Henriksen's first attempt but Henriksen was on hand to collect the rebound and played the ball across the box to Sarah Hirst and Hirst put the Eagles up 1-0 with a goal in the seventh minute.

The Eagle lead increased to 2-0 just 10 minutes later on Johansson's long-range blast from 25 yards out.

Akeliah Hillhouse pulled the Warriors back to within a goal after she finished a Candice Cunningham cross with a little over five minutes to go in the first half.

Both teams went back and forth to start the second half with the Warriors taking a 4-3 edge in shots. The Eagles held on to the 2-1 edge until the 63:31 mark when Johansson was brought down inside the 18-yard box. Jessica Diego took the penalty kick and got her second goal of the season to seal the 3-1 victory.

By finishing third in the conference the Eagles have secured a spot in The Sun Conference tournament. The tournament semifinals will be played on Saturday and the Eagles' opponent will be determined later this week. After the conference tournament is over, the Eagles will spend the following two weeks preparing for the 25th Annual NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament, which Embry-Riddle will host at the ERAU Soccer Stadium, Dec. 1-6.
