Eagles Roll to Third Straight Shutout With 9-0 Win Over Bates

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win against Bates, Wednesday afternoon at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles, ranked third in the latest NAIA National Poll released on Wednesday, are now 4-0 on the year, while Bates falls to 0-1 on the year.

Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov started things off for the Eagles at the top of the doubles lineup, defeating Ben Stein and Amrit Rupasinghe 8-0. The tandem of Carlos Bes Comeras and Jan Hoekzema topped Max Berger and Ryan Mannelly 8-2 at the No.2 spot and Tomoaki Yasuda and Istvan Bolgar bested Mike Reiss and Danilo Acosta 8-2 at the third position to complete the doubles sweep.

Bolgar was the first off the court for the Eagles' in singles play as he downed Zach Fenno 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6. Bes Comeras was not far behind as he easily dispatched Reiss 6-0, 6-1 to score the clincher for the fourth time this season.

Yasuda also dropped just one game at the No. 5 spot as he downed Danilo Acosta 6-1, 6-0. Hizak def. Stein 6-0, 6-2, Lazarov held off Rupasinghe 6-2, 6-4 at No.2 and Hoekzema closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Berger at the fourth position.

The Eagles return to the court at 4 p.m. on Thursday when they host NCAA II Rollins at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
