No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic Edges No. 3 Embry-Riddle 5-4

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? Armstrong Atlantic, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division two, handed the third-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team its first loss of the season on Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Pirates won two doubles points and earned wins at the No. 4 through No. 6 singles positions to edge the Eagles 5-4. The Eagles are now 7-1 on the year, while the Pirates remain undefeated at 15-0.

AASU's doubles points came at the second and third spots as Christian Bergh and Robert Jendelund topped Jan Hoekzema and Istvan Bolgar 8-5 and Paul Bishop and Davor Zink bested Carlos Bes Comeras and Tomoaki Yasuda by the same margin.

The Eagles got a point back as the second-ranked tandem of Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov downed Tim Johansen and Rafael Array 8-4.

ERAU took a 4-2 lead after winning the top three singles matches. Hizak defeated Johansen 6-0, 6-2 at the top spot and Lazarov fought back after dropping the first set to win the match 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. At the third position, Bes Comeras won the first set 6-4 and rallied from a 5-2 deficit to hold off Bishop 7-6 (7-3) in the second.

The next match off the court was at the No. 6 position where Zink beat Bolgar 6-1, 6-0. Bergh downed Yasuda at No. 5 to knot the score and Array battle back after to losing the first set to Hoekzema 6-1, to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-2 to score the clincher.

The Eagles' next match will be at 10 a.m. on Monday when they host Oklahoma Baptist in the first of three back-to back matches at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
