DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team
could not extend their seven game win streak on Sunday night as they fell to
the #13 nationally ranked Seahawks of Northwood in chilly conditions at the
Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium 1-0. ERAU fell to 9-5 and 6-1 in conference play,
while the Seahawks moved to 9-3 and 6-0.
Northwood entered the game with a 5-0 conference record
compared to the Eagles' 6-0 mark. Both teams were looking to take a firm hold
on the top spot in The Sun Conference.
Neither team could put a score on the board in the first
half with Northwood tallying eight shots compared to ERAU's three. Freshman
Lauren Gallant started in goal for the Eagles and played exceptionally well
saving five balls in the first frame.
Northwood scored the game's only goal less than two minutes
into the second half when Didi Jurman slipped a pass past an Eagle defender to
a streaking Lisa Ohberg who beat Gallant for the 1-0 Northwood lead.
Although the Eagles tried to find the equalizer the rest of
the way the Seahawk defense held the Eagles to just one shot-on-goal the entire
game.
Northwood was called for 19 fouls in the match and the
Eagles were whistled for 11. Gallant made seven saves in the loss.
The Eagles travel to Southeastern on Thursday to take on the
Fire. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
