AVE MARIA, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team scored five times in each half to beat Ave Maria on Saturday, closing out their Sun Conference schedule with a 10-1 victory. The Eagles moved to 11-5 overall and 8-1 in conference play while the Gyrenes fell to 3-10-2 and 1-9.
The Blue and Gold started the scoring with an Elina Johansson goal from Krizzy Menez in the 11th minute. That goal gave Johansson the ERAU all-time points lead, breaking Jessica Garcia's mark of 109. Johansson ended the game with 12 points, giving her 120 for her career in just her junior season.
ERAU's next goal came from Hanna Lundqvist after a pass from Johansson for the 2-0 lead. Johansson and Lundqvist would both add another goal in the first half before Nicole Bonk finished off the first half scoring with a blast into the back of the net off a Kristen Phelps cross.
AMU's Luciano Romero scored the Gyrenes lone goal of the game with less than five minutes to go in the first period to cut the lead to 5-1 before halftime.
The second half saw much the same action as the first held as it started with a Johansson goal to give her the hat trick for the match.
Menez was the beneficiary of two Johansson assists in the 54th and 60th minutes respectively.
Cecilie Henriksen added a goal of her own off a free kick in the 65th minute and Johansson capped the scoring with her fourth goal, the team's 10th at the 67:26 mark.
Dina Roper returned to action in net for the Eagles after missing the previous two games and played all 90 minutes.
The Eagles will end their regular season schedule next Friday when they take on Palm Beach Atlantic at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
