Eagles Top Bobcats, 3-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle volleyball team defeated the St. Thomas Bobcats Friday night at the ICI Center in a three set match (25-21, 25-15, 25-14), highlighted by freshman middle blocker Gloria Kemp.

Kemp led the way in set one, converting on four of her five attempts, hitting .600 for the Blue and Gold. The Bobcats defense was unable to handle Kemp's intensity at the net as she notched four kills and three blocks, guiding the Eagles to a first set victory over STU, 25-21.

ERAU picked up the momentum in set two and held the Bobcats to just 15 points. Kemp went five-for-six with no hitting errors, while Jordan Holcomb picked up five kills and five digs. The Eagles served up five aces and tallied 12 kills to soar over the Bobcats, 25-15.

Lauren Anastase and Savannah Trakes started for the Eagles in the final set of the match, with Anastase highlighting front row play with four kills and Trakes highlighting backrow play with five digs. ERAU took home the match after a kill by Anastase closed out the set, 25-14.

Kemp marked a career-high nine kills and five blocks wearing the Blue and Gold, and Holcomb finished with 11 kills and nine digs. Anastase and Martinez had four kills a piece and Julia Frassetto picked up 13 digs for the defense. The team combined for nine blocks and 48 digs.

Tomorrow the Eagles will take on the Florida Memorial Lions in a conference match beginning at 2 p.m. in the ICI Center. With tonight's win, the Eagles move to a perfect 9-0 in conference and 12-4 overall.
