Eagles Defeat Bees, Remain Undefeated in Conference, 16-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Eagles' volleyball team defeated the SCAD Bees Friday night at the ICI Center in a three-set match, moving their conference record to an unbeaten 16-0.

The Eagles played nearly perfect in the first set, converting on eight of their 22 attempts at the net, with only one error. Abby Hall led the pack with five kills and also contributed a service ace in the 25-12 win. Savannah Trakes, Jordan Holcomb, and Taylor Martin each picked up a kill and contributed to the Eagles' .318 hitting percentage. Martin's back-to-back aces secured the win in the final points of the set.

Set two was more evenly played, as the Bees battled their way to a 6-4 lead, but were unable to keep it as the Eagles bounced back late in the set and pulled out a 25-17 win. Holcomb tallied five kills to head the Eagle attack, while Julia Frassetto picked up eight digs from the backrow.

With ERAU leading 2-0, SCAD struggled to regain the momentum in the third set, as the Eagles took control early and posted a 9-3 lead over the Bees. A kill from SCAD's outside Olympia Haney ignited a 5-0 run by the Bees and forced the Eagles to call a timeout. A SCAD ballhandling error sent Jordan Holcomb to the serving line for the Blue and Gold and Setter Kristen Hassett notched back-to-back kills, putting the Eagles at 22 on the scoreboard and leading by six. Martin stepped up on match point and connected on a set from Hassett to end the set and match 25-17.

Hall and Holcomb each tallied seven kills in the win, while Gloria Kemp and Martin picked up six apiece. Martin also served four aces for the Eagles, while Julia Frassetto picked up 27 digs. Adriana Vazquez dished out 22 assists, while Hassett picked up two kills, three assists, and one block for the Eagles.

The Eagles remain undefeated in The Sun Conference with a 16-0 record, and move their overall record to 21-7. They take on the Edward Waters Tigers in a 2 p.m. match tomorrow afternoon in the ICI Center and round out conference play next Saturday, Nov. 7 against Southeastern on Senior Night.
