Embry-Riddle Ends Season with 5-3 Loss to AUM

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The 2009 women's soccer season came to end on Saturday night for the Embry-Riddle women's team. The Lady Senators (15-4-2) from Auburn Montgomery overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit to advance to the final 16 of the 2009 NAIA National Tournament. The Eagles finished 14-6 on the season after winning both the regular and tournament Sun Conference championships.

AUM struck first when Tschana Wade got a pass from Amber Elam and beat Eagle keeper Dina Roper in the 14th minute to take the 1-0 lead.

The Blue and Gold answered less than two minutes later when Elina Johansson netted her 23rd goal of the season after some fancy ball handling in the box.

The Eagles took the lead after freshman Krizzy Menez was the beneficiary of a Johansson pass in the 36th minute as she scored her seventh goal of the season. ERAU took the 2-1 lead into the break.

ERAU looked and played like the better team in the opening minutes of the second period. But a Elam goal in the 61st minute swung the momentum firmly onto AUM's sideline.

Just one minute later Kristen Mitchell lifted a ball over Roper as the Lady Senators took the lead for good 3-2.

AUM struck again in the 77th minute when Wade pulled one past the Eagle defense to increase the AUM lead 4-2.

ERAU's final score came with 10 minutes left with a Kristen Phelps cross to Menez for her second score of the contest.

AUM added an insurance goal with less than three minutes remaining with Wade's third goal of the match to account for the 5-3 final.

AUM outshot the Eagles 25-16, but the Eagles had the better of the corner kicks, 9-7.

Roper had eight saves on the game in 90 minutes of play. AUM's Daisy Burnfield saved six saves for the Lady Senators.

The game was the last for four Eagle seniors, Chloe Cowart, Mandy Drummond, Lindsey Evans and Kristen Phelps. All four seniors were four-year contributors.
