SAVANNAH, Ga. ? The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team slipped to 2-2 on the year following a 9-0 loss to top-ranked NCAA II opponent Armstrong Atlantic Sate, Friday at the AASU Tennis Complex. The defending national champion Pirates are now 5-0 on the year.
AASU swept through doubles as Martina Beckmann and Alida Muller-Wehlau topped Julija Sojkovska and
Natasa Zoricic 8-3, Kathleen Henry and Tina Ronel defeated
Sara Abraul and
Marga Rico Jimenez 8-2, and Gabriella Kovacs and Sona Novakova defeated
Hana Im and
Mathilda Engstrom 8-3.
Novakova, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA II singles poll, was the first to finish her match, downing Zoricic 6-2, 6-1. No. 18 Kovacs scored the clincher at the third spot, besting Stojkovska 6-0, 6-0.
The Eagles' next match will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday when they face conference foe Savannah College of Art and Design.
