WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle women's volleyball team opened up its 2009 campaign with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-21) victory over the Northwood Seahawks Wednesday night in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Freshman Jordan Holcomb led the Eagles in her rookie debut with 10 kills, 10 digs, seven blocks and three aces, while senior Savannah Trakes recorded 10 kills and 10 digs on the night.
The Eagles hit .186 for the match, tallying 41 kills in their conference season opener. The team combined for 58 digs, seven aces and seven blocks.
Freshman Adriana Vazquez contributed 33 assists in her first collegiate match, while also adding 10 digs and one service ace. Julia Frassetto led the Eagles defensively with 15 digs. Senior Rebecca Heller and junior Alana Martinez added four kills each, with four and three blocks, respectively. Sophomore Abby Hall recorded six kills and freshman Taylor Martin added eight digs in her first match as an Eagle.
The team will take on conference opponent Florida Memorial Thurs., Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. in Opa Locka, Fla. The Eagles are now 1-0 in The Sun Conference and 1-0 overall.
