AVE MARIA, Fla. -- The Eagles' volleyball team remains undefeated after topping the Ave Maria Gyrenes in three quick sets, 25-11, 25-17, 25-18, on the road Saturday afternoon.
Savannah Trakes served the team to an 8-0 start in the first set, aided by a service ace and two kills from Abby Hall. Four consecutive kills by ERAU gave the Eagles a 14-4 advantage and led the way to a 25-11 victory over the Gyrenes in set one.
The Eagles had 10 kills and two blocks in the second set, led by Hall who recorded four kills. The team sided out at 0.76 percent and tallied three service aces, with Adriana Vazquez serving two of them. The Eagles closed out the set, 25-17, with a solo block from Rebecca Heller.
Set three opened with a service ace by Vazquez and a kill from Hall, but the Gyrenes tallied two kills and two service aces to put AMU up 4-2. Two service aces by
Taylor Martin tied the game at 7-7, until Hall recorded another kill and gave the Eagles a one-point advantage. The score was tied once more, but the Eagles jumped ahead for one final time and held onto the lead for the remainder of the set.
Taylor Martin closed out the match, 25-18, with her fourth kill of the night, assisted by Vazquez.
Abby Hall led the way, tallying 19 kills in just three sets, hitting .643 for the match. Trakes added seven kills, while Gloria Kemp had five. Alana Martinez picked up eight digs and two kills, while Vazquez recorded four service aces and totaled 36 assists for the Eagles.
This wraps up the four-match road trip and sends the Eagles back to Daytona Beach, Fla. with an overall record of 4-0. The Eagles will step back on the court Friday, Sept. 4, as they host the ERAU Labor Day Tournament. ERAU will take on Evangel at 1 p.m. and Lindsey Wilson at 7 p.m.
