DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle volleyball team picked up its ninth win of the season, defeating conference opponent Warner in three sets (25-20, 25-15, 25-21) Saturday afternoon on the Eagles' home court.
The Eagles came out strong in the first set, as Taylor Martin served the way to a 4-0 lead over the Royals. Abby Hall tallied five kills in only 11 attempts, hitting .455 for the set, heading the Eagles' offense and leading the way to a 25-20 win.
Set two opened similarly for the Blue and Gold, as Alana Martinez was sent to the serving line after an attack error on the Royals and served the Eagles to a 4-0 lead. Outside hitter Savannah Trakes went five-for-seven in set two and propelled the Eagles to a quick 25-15 victory.
Sophomore Julia Frassetto led the defensive hold for the Eagles in set three, which was the closest set of the match, with seven digs. Warner seemed poised to take set three, but the Eagles' defense halted the Royals drive and tallied 18 digs as a team. Martinez hit .375 with four kills, while Hall and Jordan Holcomb notched three each.
Freshman setter Adriana Vazquez tallied 34 assists and two service aces for the Blue and Gold, while Hall and Holcomb finished the match with nine kills a piece. Trakes added seven kills and five digs, while Frassetto led the defense with 16 digs on the match.
