Harleman Leads No. 15 Eagles to 2-0 Shutout of No. 11 AUM

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle senior Marco Harleman got on the scoresheet for the second game in a row to lead the 15th-ranked Eagles to a 2-0 shutout of No. 11 Auburn-Montgomery, Friday at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. Harleman scored twice in the second half to help the Blue and Gold improve its record to 5-1 on the year. The loss was the first of the season for the Senators who now stand a 3-1-1.

Both teams were evenly matched to start the game, employing more of a possession style of play in the first frame. The game progressed almost 14 minutes before the first shot attempt and both teams combined for just four shots in the half, resulting in a scoreless draw at the halftime break.

The Eagles were finally able to break the deadlock in the 55th minute. Following a Ryan Woods corner, neither side was able to gain control of the ball and it was juggled from team to team around the edge of the Senator box before bouncing to Robin Rosen. Rosen, who was surrounded by two AUM defenders, was unable to control the ball and it popped into their air again, but this time when it fell, Harleman was on hand to collect it and the senior hammered home his sixth goal of the season to put the Eagles up 1-0.

The Senators had an opportunity to equalize in the 80th minute when Christopher Ross sent a dangerous ball across the face of the Eagle goal. Kristjan Hannesson was in position to make a play, but an alert Viktor Bergstrand came off his line to snatch it off Hannesson's head to preserve the lead.

The Eagles' second goal less than two minutes later started with a bit of miscommunication in the midfield that led to a mild collision between Harleman and Nazif Nuhu. Harleman recovered to collect the ball and completed a pass to Ryan Maloney at the top of the box. Harleman continued his run, which enabled Maloney to get the ball back to him with his first touch, and Harleman's thunderous strike sealed the win for the Blue and Gold.

The Eagles will take a week off to prepare for a two-game road trip to Mobile, Ala. They will face Belhaven (Miss.) at 7 p.m. on Friday and will go up against Mobile at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
