MOBILE, Ala. - The NAIA's No. 10 ranked men's soccer team managed to come away with a 1-0 victory on Friday against Belhaven College (4-2) despite the extremely unfavorable conditions. Game time was pushed back to 5:00 p.m. because of what the weather had done to the field, and the Eagles (6-1) and Blazers were forced to play on the University of Mobile's practice field. The muddy pitch seemed to affect the game very much so as both teams struggled to get anything substantial going.
The only goal of the match came when Matthias Klatt and Sam Litchfield teamed up on an assist to junior Ryan Maloney who scored his team-leading tenth goal of the year. Maloney beat the goalie in the 14th minute and the Eagle defense held the rest of the game to produce the final.
The field conditions contributed to a different style of play for both teams, as both has their chances on goal yet only the Eagles took advantage. ERAU outshot Belhaven 15-11, although the Blazers held the second half edge 6-3.
Senior keeper Viktor Bergstrand played all 90 minutes of the game and came up with five saves for the Eagles, while Belhaven's goalie Zach Wallace had six saves in the loss.
The Eagles return to action Saturday as they face host school Mobile at 4:00 p.m.
