ST. LEO Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team extended is early season record to 2-0 with a 9-0 shutout of St. Leo on Wednesday.
The Eagles dropped just six games in doubles as
Jan Hoekzema and Alexi Huegas defeated Pablo Chaves and Jose Morales 8-1,
Istvan Bolgar and
Peter Francis shut out T. Bale-Heismann and Michael Callaway 8-0 and
Charlie Rice and
Luke Maricic bested Yves Jacobs and Jeff Hanrahan 8-5.
Despite a shuffle in the singles line-up, the Eagles continued to dominate, registering shutouts in the No. 4 through No. 6 singles positions.
Alex Perez blanked Hanrahan 6-0, 6-0, Maricic down Julian Jean-Pierre by the same margin and
Zander Woodford-Smith scored the clincher with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of his own over McCallaway.
Bolgar defeated Bale-Heismann 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, Huegas topped Chavez 6-4, 6-1 at the top spot and Rice pulled out a 6-0, 7-6 (1) win over Morales in his first match at the No. 2 position.
The Eagles play their first conference match of the season at 3 p.m. on Friday when they travel to Miami Gardens to take on St. Thomas.
